Is it the V.C?

Library incomplete project

No more blaming fingers towards Vice Chancellor, Pro. Dominic Makawiti, Maseno Equator News has
established.
In an interview with the university legal officer, Elizabeth Ayoo, she clearly stated that procurement procedures from the government are the reason why projects like the library have taken this long.
“There are procedures to be followed in financing of the project and it is not the VC who is responsible”,
said the legal officer.
Speaking to Maseno Equator News she said that students should get to know the truth before they
accuse the VC. This is because the man is without blemish as the construction project is financed by the
government Treasury.
The legal officer also added that the procurement procedures which are stipulated in the government
policies have to be followed to the letter.
“The V.C does not have powers to influence the pace of constructing the library”, added Elizabeth Ayoo.
She also revealed that the library construction stopped as the contract given to the first construction
company elapsed before the project was completed.
The university is now in the process of re-tendering the construction thus showing why cut off the blame
from the V.C’s office.
The first company is said to have ran short of the necessary materials as the budgeted amount was far
below the market prices of various items.
Among other logistics which are in the procurement and procedures book, they lead to the elapse of the time which the tender was to last.

Hostel headache
Many view Prof. Dominic Makawiti as one sleeping on the job, however, it is a fact that accommodation is now a privilege and not a right unlike in the past.
This is a policy from the government enacted 7years ago where every university admission is not now tagged to the number of students it can accommodate in the hostels.
“Admission of first years is not now pegged to the number of hostels a university has”, said Elizabeth.
Speaking to Maseno Equator News, she gave the example of Pretoria University in South Africa which
has around 88,000 students and yet only provides accommodation to 5,000 students on merit of
performance.
Students will thus be forced to unlock the puzzle of hostels come September more than 3,000 first years
will be admitted and its true hostel priority will go to them.
Lighting and power loss
When the lights go off, why do you shout the name Makawiti as if he is the one responsible? Minutes later, the back-up system is on and interestingly no one says, “Yes, Makawiti now you have done it”.
We all want to sacrifice Prof. Makawiti whenever everything goes wrong.
In our homes, lights also go off due to technical or natural hitches and nobody shouts the name of the area MP or CEO of Kenya Power or name of parent.
he blaming finger is now to be directed elsewhere as the V.C is innocent and people should first have the facts before they say Makawiti is slipping off the mark of quality service.
